Book Review: Will Kostakis
The Sidekicks, Will Kostakis
Absolutely stunning read.
The story is told from three perspectives, the swimmer, the rebel and the nerd, and each of them detail their experience of the death of their friend and how they navigate the world without him in it. Grief is felt in various forms, ranging from anger to blame and regret, and eventually having the courage to move on.
What I loved about this novel were the three nuanced and authentic voices that captured each of the characters beautifully, without them fitting into any stereotype despite their labels. Their challenges and fears were both subtle and realistic. I found Kostakis’ writing beautifully raw and honest. If you’re going to read any YA fiction, read this.
I finished the last page, sighed and thought it was one of the most beautiful YA books I have ever read.
