The Ruin is a well-paced crime thriller with multiple threads that are eventually tied together in a thoughtful way.
Protagonists Cormac and Aisling work nicely in complementing one another as characters as they forge ahead to uncover the past. The past acts as a motif in the novel, a catalyst for one’s actions, as well as using the past to move forward. It is interesting how the past impacts each of us differently.
The author explores moral ambiguity through the actions of individuals, and how we only view these actions objectively in retrospect. An enjoyable and thoughtful novel. I can only imagine the planning that went into the novel to keep hold of all those threads. If you love crime fiction, this is for you!
